Please, Do It Again

This profound exploration of Nehemiah chapter 9 invites us into the beautiful tension between our faithlessness and God's unwavering consistency. We discover that God's character is like a child's boundless energy—He never tires of doing the same merciful thing again and again. The Israelites gathered for six hours of reading God's law and confessing their sins, confronting a pattern we know all too well: God's grace, our sin, His judgment, and then His grace again. This cycle repeats six times in just sixteen verses, showing us rebellion after rebellion met with mercy after mercy. The tension is palpable—how can a righteous God keep forgiving? The answer comes in the cross of Christ, where God's righteousness and mercy meet perfectly. Through the new covenant sealed in Jesus' blood, we're not trapped in an endless cycle of failure. Instead, we're sealed by the Spirit with the promise that our day of sinning will end. Until then, we're invited to come again and again to the throne of grace, knowing that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us. Our misery, especially when self-inflicted, becomes an invitation to experience God's inexhaustible mercy.
